2019 Christmas gift guide for disabled adults and the elderly

Posted by Fiona Brown, Care Designs on

Just over 2 weeks left to Christmas Day and you haven’t a clue what to buy your loved ones. We have been scouring the shops on and off the high street to give you some fresh ideas. Here are a few suggestions that we like and hope you do too.

Blue badge company – I love this brand and could buy lots of presents from here, but if I had to choose just one that I think can be useful for anyone it would be their lap tray (from £25.00 - https://www.bluebadgecompany.co.uk/at-home/lap-trays-101.html). All our family use lap trays. They are perfect when sitting in a chair or bed for reading, eating or crafting as they mould to your legs, keeping the tray balanced.

A lovely present for someone with Dementia is the Talking Photo Album Memories Brought to Life available (£29.99 or £39.99 for the deluxe version) at Live Better with Dementia https://dementia.livebetterwith.com/products/talking-photo-album-memories-brought-to-life. There are 20 pages to fill with photos and record stories and memories associated with them. A great way to help someone remember things.

Want to get Mum or Dad something nice to wear, but they have difficulty putting on and taking things off. Take a look at The Able Label - https://www.theablelabel.com/. Stylish clothes with discreet fastenings to help those who have restricted movements in their hands Their best seller for ladies is the Stella jersey top at £47.50. https://www.theablelabel.com/collections/tops-t-shirts/products/stella-jersey-top-seaspray

Help people keep reading or crafting with a magnifying glass with a light and stand – a selection are available on amazon from £8.99 at https://www.amazon.co.uk/slp/magnifying-glass-with-light-and-stand/qpfrh5v8mcns5v7

Not drinking alcohol, why miss out on the fun, try seedlip drinks https://seedlipdrinks.com/uk, available in lots of different supermarkets. Have fun with your mocktails, no need to have sugary sweet carbonated drinks. My favourite is the gift set of two different botanical spirits at £25.99 https://seedlipdrinks.com/uk/shop/20cl-duo-gift-box?variant=Default%20Title

Every woman loves a handbag, though finding one that meets the needs of someone who is disabled can be difficult.  Mai Tui Samantha Bag has been designed in conjunction with Samantha Renke and is highly rated as an inclusive on-trend design that looks after the needs of both disabled and non-disabled users, https://miatui.com/collections/gifts-for-her/products/samantha-multiple-colours

Lastly, going our for a meal and need protection from spills, take a look at our range of our stylish and discreet clothing protectors.

Happy shopping!
